Three's Company: Three pieces from Merc London

'Japster' Gingham Check Button Down Shirt:

The 'Japster' is one of Merc's 'Core' pieces and has been included in their collection for as long as I can remember. What more can I say? It's a classic Button Down and is an essential item for any man about towns wardrobe. The collar has gone from a three finger to a two finger (for those who don't have a clue what I'm on about here, it's an old mod thing! haha!) this gives it that modern twist that all good Modernists look for when picking out an item of clothing. The shirt fits very well and looks lovely layered with a bit of knitwear or a jacket. It's all about the detail and Merc have included a tartan lining on the inside of the cuffs and on the neckband, sound that! I love the way the shirt feels on too, very comfy to wear and ideal for that off to the pub for a few look, or for a smarter occasion worn with a neat pair of strides. I feel it really doesn't matter about the size of the collar on a shirt, yeah it's good to have a three finger one, but having some shirts with smaller collars makes for an ever-changing wardrobe and gives your looks versatility. Japster epitomises the Modernist Fraternity, smart, clean and forward thinking with an eye on the past. Get on it!

'Harris' Navy Blue Cardigan:

What a piece this is, I bought my first one in around 2010 on one of my first ever pilgrimages to Carnaby Street. That one was black and is still with me to this day! The one I have recently acquired is Navy Blue and very nice too. What really sets this piece off is the Faux Leather 'football' buttons situated down the front of the cardigan. They really are a tribute to that late 60's Hard Mod/Skinhead look which began to creep in when clothing became that tad more industrial. On the left breast sits a classic Merc 'Crown' logo which has become synonymous with the brand over the last few years! The one thing you can always count on with Merc gear is the outstanding quality of their garms. The 'Harris' Cardigan is made from a lovely soft wool and really keeps the cold out. I usually wear mine with a short sleeve button down for that classic Modernist about town look. In terms of Cardigans if you want a classic, cool piece of plain knitwear, then Harris should be your port of call!

'Winston Sta' Sta Press Trousers:

You need to wear the right trousers to complete your look and Sta Press trousers are a Modernist classic. Slim fitting with all the right details the 'Winston' are ideal for both a smart and casual look. I wear mine with desert boots or shoes and they look great with both. I particularly like the small Merc logo's in the form of a tab and a sown on crown logo. Small details like these really do make an item. Made from a smooth cotton fabric these trousers are hard wearing and look as good in the office as they do on a night out. Available in a range of colours these trousers are one for all occasions. They give a solid look to your outfit and provide you with that smart outlook every mod wants.
