Billy Sullivan "Winter Of Discontent" a Review...

Thursday 6 February 2014

The Spitfires: Live at Doctor Browns Thursday 27th February! 4Play February Special!

Listen up! As Liam Gallagher once said; The Middlesbrough music scene is off to a flyer this year already with The Spitfires coming to Doc Browns on the 27th February! This much talked about triplet have been getting a lot of attention from the clued in throughout the last year or so. Watford is blessed with these lads, sharp, cool, and of course great musicians.
Lead singer Billy Sullivan is a young Weller in 2014 telling it like it is. He's a superb songwriter and puts 110% into every live performance, a true craftsman. Doc Browns has had no shortage of some great artists and bands in the past. Take Alistair Sheerin for example he's played there a number of times and always blows the roof off! This will be no different for The Spitfires!
In the time I've followed the band, they have grown in musical maturity and strength. The single 'Spark to Start' gives listeners a great insight to modern Britain with tidy guitar riffs and smooth arrangements. The B-side 'Sirens' is punchy and powerful and great to jump about to! The Spitfires create the type of music you want to get ready to on a Friday night. The type of music you want to hear when you're out on the lash with the lads! The type of music which makes you proud to be from our great country. In 2013 the second single release from The Spitfires was an absolute cracker! 'Tell me // Words to Say' another great leap forward for this very promising band. The rejuvenated 'Tell Me' with its new arrangement is outstanding and received good views all round. 'Words to Say' is passionate and filled with teen angst and youthful power. The lads recently released a free download for their loyal following, 'Escape Me (Demo)' another great track which harks back to the early sounds of The Jam, now that can't be bad!
The Spitfires are a band that can only get better with time, and it's really exciting to see what they will do in the next year or so! The band are musically in sync with one another on stage and really know how to get a room bouncing. It's great to see good honest bands like this get noticed and talked about! I for one, haven't stopped talking about them! I'm still very young, but get mega excited by new bands that have a cool, honest, hard-hitting sound. To top it off they're all great lads and really love what they're doing!
February 27th doesn't just stop with The Spitfires, the support is rather good too! The Reverbs, The Found and Crossfire will take to the stage before The Spitfires do. Three great bands with very distinctive sounds, what a treat! This night is sure to be outstanding and the guys over at '4Play' deserve a nice cold pint!
Finally, The Spitfires' next release is another single entitled, 'I'm Holdin' On // Relapse' which is set to be released on the 3rd of March on Cooking Soup Records. It's available on CD, Digital and 7" Vinyl for all you record lovers out there! What more can I say? Don't sit in your homes watching talent-less pricks on your TV's get down to Doc Browns for The Spitfires! It's gonna be a good'un I've already picked my outfit out!
