Modernism: A New Decade.

It's 2014 now and Modernism has four generations of distinctive followers. There's the original mods of the 1960's, the revival lads of the late 1970's, the Britpop chaps from the 1990's and boys my age, older and younger from the 2000's.
Modernism is a British Sub-Culture which origins lie in small underground jazz clubs of the late 1950's.  This is where it all started. Since then our Sub-culture has gone through several different phases and revivals. This makes us probably the most versatile and different Sub-Culture there is. Modernism managed it's way onto the centre stage in the mid 1960's, after this flower-power took over and the Summer of Love commenced. Weller and The Jam along with the film of the era 'Quadrophenia' took Britain and many areas of the globe by storm and the mod revival began. Then the 1990's saw bands such as Oasis, Blur and many others scream onto the scene. With Oasis's Modernist influenced dress and their town crier shouts of working class passion and anger at society the third wave of parka donning, Adidas wearing Mods were born! Since then there's been no real publicised revival, however we in the know (insert wink emoji) have lived our Modernist lives every single day. Films along with new clothing brands and artists that keep emerging have kept our superb Sub-Culture alive and always moving forward whilst taking one good glance back at our heritage. 2014 isn't the greatest year to be a Mod, but there's always plenty going on, on the Mod calendar. More and more events and rallies emerge nearly every week. The likes of Grass Routes Gigs provide a top quality free gig every Thursday and Friday to name just one group of people doing things right!
With the internet in full swing it's now even easier to get that highly sought after item! The internets proven to be a great tool for Mods to buy items, meet one another and organise events. With more and more young lads and lasses being inspired each day our movement is in the best position it ever has been. The torch that is mod is being well and truly carried on! Generation after generation will discover, learn and enjoy everything to do with mod. I for one am trying to introduce younger people to the Sub-Culture though this very blog! So 2014, a new generation is breaking though! Bands such as The Spitfires are carrying forward the Mod message and aesthetic. Mod is as current and relevant in society as it has ever been. I am privileged to be a part of this movement!
Mod will always be around as long as there's guys and girls with good taste. Keep The Faith people!
