Grass Routes Gigs in association with Move On Up Blog presents a Route 69 Charity Takeover!

Friday 12th September 2014, a day of epic proportions. Not only do I turn 20, but we have teamed up with our good friends over at Grass Routes Gigs to bring you a Route 69 like no other! This Friday sees the two universes of Move On Up and Grass Routes collide! A while back now, we began to think of a concept that would allow the two groups to come together under one banner. The idea was reached of incorporating a charity fundraiser into one of the Grass Route gigs. The chosen charities are, Teenage Cancer Trust and The Trinity Holistic Centre based at James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough. These are two absolutely superb charities, and the second one holds a special place in my heart!

The Teenage Cancer Trust supports thousands of teenagers who are diagnosed with cancer each day. Their vision is a future where young peoples lives don't stop just because they've been diagnosed with cancer. Everything Teenage Cancer Trust does aims to help improve the patients chances of survival and their overall quality of life. The alarming statistic that around 7 young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK, proves just how vital and important this charity is.

The second of our chosen charities is the Trinity Holistic Centre, which is based at James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough. The Trinity Holistic Centre works closely with cancer patients and their families providing a variety of relaxation treatments to help aid recovery. The Centre provides a welcome break for cancer patients from the intensive treatment they receive. The staff create a warm atmosphere and are very kind and welcoming. The Centre relies on charity donations in order to provide the treatment they do, without donations the Centre would struggle to stay open. With this night we are aiming to raise some good money for the charities, whilst having a cracking night listening to some quality live music!

Now, onto the top quality line up. We have, for your listening pleasure: Acoustic Weller, King Mojo, and The Talks! Acoustic Weller features Mark Simpson from The New Age Jam. Mark plays a variety of tunes from Weller's back catalogue, ranging from The Jam and The Style Council right up to Paul's extensive solo material. Mark has been on the circuit for a long time and has gained many fans far and wide. He's widely regarded as one of the best tributes to Mr Weller that there is anywhere and I can agree with that! Marks is a top friend of mine and has been with us at Move On Up since the start! He's a big fan of the blog and Grass Routes gigs so was one of the first people on the list when talk of the gig first came about! Class to have you on board, cheers Mark! Next up we have King Mojo, two genre's collide with these lads, both Mod and Psych what a sound! King Mojo have played a few gigs at the March of the Mods events and have also supported The 45's at Route 69. Their last gig with Grass Routes was when they played with Ming City Rockers at 4Play, they managed to blow the roof off over at Doc Browns. Expect nothing less this coming Friday at The Alice! Finally our Headliner is The Talks! The Talks are known for their bouncing SKA filled live shows up and down the country and even in Europe! Expect to see a band mixing the best from the early 80's 2Tone movement with their own flavour to provide you with one hell of a set! They've shared stages with the likes of Madness, The Specials, and The Beat to name just a few! The Talks are being talked about all over the UK and abroad as one of THE bands to see live! One thing is certain: The Talks will fill a dance floor anywhere they go with their energy filled, soulful SKA. I'm digging their tune 'Friday Night' and believe me there's plenty more where that came from! Come and discover more on Friday night!

Diz will be warming the ears of you all before and after the bands sets with a delightful Mod/Soul/SKA mix. He's DJ'd the likes of the 100 Club and knows how to please the ears of the tuned in! He's also Mixed an exclusive CD which will be on sale on the night, limited to just 20 copies priced at £4 per CD. All proceeds go to our two chosen charities. Both The Spitfires and The Lost Boys have donated a track each, both which do not appear on CD format anywhere else! The Lost Boys track also features Andy Crofts! Speaking of Andy Crofts he's also donated a track for the CD a cover of The Beatles classic 'Across The Universe' which will be available as a free download on the inside sleeve.

So Friday 12th September 2014 , The Princess Alice Middlesbrough, a night not to be missed! Let's raise some good money for the chosen charities! Keep the Faith people!
