David Pottinger is a 20 year old mod from Middlesbrough in the North East of England. He’s been fully into mod since 2008, however, has been brought up on the music since as early as he can remember. Mod is one of David’s main passions and he lives and breathes it every day. It is something which sets him apart from the majority of society and gives him his own image and personal edge. In September 2013 David decided to spread his Mod Gospel and set up ‘Move On Up Blog’, with one of his childhood best friends. The Blogs word has spread far and wide and has become well known within the mod community. So with Merc's new Spring Summer 15 range about to drop, David had a look over it and picked out his five favourite pieces. He’s been a fan of Merc since the start of his modernist journey so this was a pleasure for him to do!
'Like many brands Merc London is one of those brands that has been a staple in my wardrobe since the start of my journey into this wonderful Sub-Culture. From the 'Harris' cardigan I bought on Carnaby Street years ago, to the 'Tobias' Fishtail Parka I purchased off my best mate, Merc has always created that classic look for me and their quality is second to none. So without further a do we have been asked to delve into their SS15 collection and pick out our five favourite pieces.'Buckroe' Navy Jacket.
This piece takes inspiration from the classic mod 'Monkey' jacket which features a colourful baseball style neck and cuffs. For SS15 Merc have taken this shape and made it their own, Buckroe features a colourful neck and pocket detailing whilst the rest of the jacket remains navy blue. Unlike the usual zip fastening Buckroe deploys popper buttons across the front. This jacket I would say is a cross-breed between the Monkey Jacket and the Baseball Jacket and incorporates the two eras together under one item the 50's Ivy League style and the 60's Modernist style. Buckroe is ideal for throwing on over a nice polo shirt or tee shirt for that more relaxed look. A perfect  addition to any man's Spring wardrobe.  'Delray' Jacquard Knitted Polo.
There's something about knitted polos that really makes them a stand out piece in any gentleman's wardrobe. The Delray is no different and looks spot on. With its zig-zag pattern and solid colour collar and cuffs, this is the ideal piece for that smart-casual outing. It can be dressed up or down with jeans or with Sta Press. The Delray screams sixties Britain and looks great on. It's a very neat and versatile piece and could be layered up with the 'Harris' cardigan for a night out to the pub with the lads. There's many knitted polos out there but Delray is certainly one which will stand the test of time as the seasons come and go.
 'Harrington' Harrington Jacket.
Well where would Sub-cultures be without the Harrington Jacket? This piece has been among the 'Core' of the Merc collections for as long as I can remember and it really is the essential jacket to own. Coming in a variety of classic colours the Harrington has an army of followers and is loved by many. Merc's version is superb, believe me, I own one and it's been one of the best jackets I've ever owned as it literally goes with anything. From trousers and Loafers to jeans and Desert Boots, the Harrington is an essential wardrobe staple for any man and Merc's version is quality!'Japster' L/S Gingham Check Shirt.
Another beauty of a wardrobe essential from Merc now. Available in a few colours the Japster has been a constant in Merc collections for a long time. This one's in a lovely black and white check with Tartan neck and cuff lining for that added detail. With a button down collar and box pleat Japster has all the credentials of a perfect mod shirt which will look good on any man. I usually wear mine with selvedge denim and Desert Boots and a Harrington for that classic mod street look, where Sub-culture meets urban Britain. Like many of Merc's pieces, Japster can be dressed up or down and worn to any social occasion, giving you that edge on the regular dressers of today.
‘Riviera’ Paisley Shirt.

Where would the Modernist fraternity be without the Paisley Shirt? The ‘Riviera’ shirt takes inspiration from the past and blends it with Merc’s fresh outlook for the future. With a Navy Blue and Red colourway, the shirt really does give the item that 60’s feel. Accompanied by a neat button down collar the ‘Riviera’ has all the identifiable Modernist credentials. The collar roll is instantly appealing and sets off the shirt. The small paisley pattern which covers the shirt is very different from the rest of the paisley out on the market today with small squares occupying the space in between the paisley swirls. Worn with Sta press or a pair of jeans, Riviera is a versatile addition to any man's wardrobe.'
