Merc London A/W 2016 'The Modern Man'

Every year the good people over at Merc London send us over some bits from their Autumn/Winter collection for the coming season. Since I took my first steps on the scene way back in 2008 Merc London has always been a brand that I've worn consistently. I've had Racing Jumpers, Harringtons, Cord Bowling Shoes, Button Downs and many more items which have sat in my wardrobe through every phase and look I've gone through. I remember walking past the Carnaby Street store (RIP) on a school trip when I was 14 and being amazed at all the gear available. With all the brands emerging currently Merc have done well to stand the test of time producing classic garms that look well throughout all the seasons. So we've taken pick of a few standout pieces from their new Autumn/Winter Collection.

Winston Sta Press Trouser:

Seen here in Cream the Winston Sta Press have been a staple in Merc's collection for as long as I can remember. The Sta Press trouser in general has been a Ivy/Modernist staple trouser since the early days being worn with Bass, Pro Keds and various derby shoes. Comfortable and practical the Winston Sta press add that simple edge to your legwear option with a classic silhouette. I've paired these a lot with a classic red sock and Oxblood Loafer combo which compliments the cream colour perfectly. The whole Modernist ethic with detail is present in these trousers with the tartan hanger loop and the small Merc tag and badge which are great subtle details. Sta Press have been done by many a brand including Levi's but not many come close to the Winston Sta Press. They can be dressed up with a 'Japster' Button Down  and a decent pair of shoes or down with the likes of an Amour Lux Tee and a pair of Superga or Pro Keds for that Ivy vibe. A great addition to any modern chaps wardrobe.

Haxy Cable Knit Polo:

Love this piece, Knitted Polo's have always been a constant in my wardrobe and the Haxby takes things up a level. Cable Knit has always been cool and when done properly it looks great. This particular piece comes in a deep burgandy colourway with contasting navy sleeves, hem and collar. It gives off real mid 60's steez and looks great on. With the front of the polo donning cable knit it adds that all important Ivy vibe for me, and allows the piece to stand on its own as a future classic. I could see this being done in a number of colours over the years and it could definitely be part of the furniture in some of Merc's future collections. The quality is bang on, as is the fit two things which always should be present in a good item of clothing. Merc have definitely touched on something good here and should think about making this young buck a staple.

Barcroft Polka Dot Polo:

Polo's have been done to death over the years by many brands. In recent years the Polka Dot pattern has been making it's way onto the Polo Shirt though a few brands and it doesn't look half bad! Merc have brought the two together here and have done it properly. Here we see the Black colourway with contrasting grey collar. A nice simple piece which is ideal for day to day wear. I've worn mine with jeans and Clarks and it's looked sweet. The two tone polka dot print pays homage to the era defining record label 2Tone and is definitely the best colourway out of the two available. Made from soft cotton it's easy on and still looks good after a few consecutive nights in the boozer.

T Shirts:

Merc have always done the T Shirt well over the years and this Autumn, Winter sees bold prints return with a Modernist edge. The 'Scooter Club' and 'All Night Long' prints are relevant and look great paired with a good pair of jeans. Made with good quality cotton and with a nice fit the tees will be there for you throughout the seasons. Both tees are ideal for layering and look neat worn with a jacket or cardigan. As always with Merc gear the quality is excellent and these tees will be a permanent ficture in your wardrobe.

Another great collection from the chaps over at Merc London and with Luke Campbell being the face of it you know it's worth a look!
