A chat with Fay Hallam

Recently I had the pleasure of meeting up with Fay Hallam (ex Makin' Time and Fay Hallam Trinity) to talk about her new album '' which has just been released. So dive in and take a read of our exclusive interview! Cheers Fay!

DP: So a new album, are you looking forward to hearing people's feedback?

FH: Yes its like being pregnant, giving birth and hoping loving family and friends won't tell you that you have produced a monstrosity. Though I'm pretty confident this is the musical equivalent of Brad Pitt and Marilyn Monroe's beautiful and gracious lovechild.

DP: What inspired you on this venture?

FH: I was immediately inspired by the enthusiasm and positivity of Andy Lewis. He joined us on bass for a gig last December and was really up for playing bass on an album I was about to write. We started recording in January and I was writing songs musically influenced by Focus and Caravan.

DP: I've heard Andy Lewis is producing your album, how was it working with him?

FH: Andy took over producing it and we spent many happy months recording it...finishing in June. It was fantastic to work with him. He is a lovely guy and a hugely talented producer. I love what he's done. The album is amazing.

DP: Makin' Time were one of my favourite Revival bands, do you have fond memories of that era?

FH: I was in Makin Time for 2 years aged 17/18 and I'm stunned people still remember the band so fondly. I'm on tour in Spain as I write, and people show up all the time with old records to sign.

DP: What's your favourite track off the new album?

FH: Colours. I was writing the last few lines of it when Bowie died.

DP: Where do you feel the Mod Scene is at, at the moment?

FH: I  have absolutely no idea. But there's a special group of people our age who are connected by a love of good music and dress. We always know each other.

DP: Where can we get/hear the album?

FH: You can pre order it on Amazon. Copies will be available at our launch night gig..100 Club, Oxford St London. Friday 14th October. Its on Well Suspect Records...a sister company of Acid Jazz.

DP: Could you sum up the album in one word?

FH: Timeless
